alpha-lipoprotein

(noun) a lipoprotein that transports cholesterol in the blood; composed of a high proportion of protein and relatively little cholesterol; high levels are thought to be associated with decreased risk of coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. Synonyms: high-density lipoprotein, HDL.
